Bill McDorman

Executive Director

Bill McDorman is a seed saver, writer, and educator based in Cornville, Arizona. He is co-founder of The Down Home Project, Garden City Seeds, Seeds Trust, High Altitude Gardens, the Sawtooth Botanical Gardens, Seed School and the Rocky Mountain Seed Alliance. He is author of the book Basic Seed Saving. Bill is the former executive director of Native Seeds/SEARCH.


Belle Starr

Deputy Director

Belle Starr has a background in media, public relations, community organizing and nonprofit management. She was co-producer of the seminal sustainability festival SolFest in Northern California for 7 years, and in the early 90s she produced and hosted the nationally syndicated environmental radio feature, the Environmental Action Report. Belle is the co-founder of Seed School.


John "JC" Caccia


John Caccia has a passion for gardening and seed saving as well as music, writing, whitewater rafting, geothermal hot springs and beekeeping. He has a masters degree in Athletic Administration from Idaho State University. John is a co-founder of the Rocky Mountain Seed Alliance, manager of the Wood River Seed Library, and a longtime environmental activist and grassroots community organizer.


Lee-Ann Hill

Special Projects Coordinator

Lee-Ann holds a MA in Cultural Ecology from Prescott College where she studied traditional land management with an eye on food systems. After conducting research in New Mexico and working on organic farms in Costa Rica, Lee-Ann currently resides in southwest Colorado where she runs a CSA (community supported agriculture) program at Laughing Wolf farm integrating seed adaptation, water conservation, and landscape regeneration. Lee-Ann is also a graduate of RMSA's Seed School Teacher Training and Grain School programs. As Special Projects Coordinator, she produced the Mountain West Seed Summit and oversees the Seed Stewards program, Heritage Grain Trials and performs research for RMSA.


Stephen Thomas

Grants and Communications Associate

Stephen is a writer and community organizer with a passion for environmental ethics and conservation. Originally from the Southeast, he is a co-founder of Evolver Atlanta, a grassroots group dedicated to connecting people around sustainability and conscious living. Stephen enjoys lending his writing and communication skills to support nonprofit development, environmental activism, and transformational culture.


Julie St. John

Graphic Designer

Julie’s grassroots began in activism and have flowered into using her design and editing expertise to promote the visions of some of the finest environmental/conservation efforts in the West. She is passionate about protecting and restoring native landscapes and reinvigorating sustainable relationships between human and natural communities.

Our mission is to assure a diverse and abundant supply of seeds for the Rocky Mountain West through networking, education and helping establish community-based models of seed stewardship.
